Lorna Millar

Listed in The Sixth Edition of 'ADAMS, A Buyers Guide to Irish Art'

Lorna Millar was born in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. Her work focuses mainly on nostalgic windswept beach scenes, family outings and dance.

Lorna creates fluid images constructed with great energy by applying liberal amounts of thick colour with both brush and palette knife. Each stroke is carefully skilled to create a whole. The paint is often allowed to stand from the canvas which gives the work a unique tangible quality.

When viewing Lorna Millar's work one is immediately aware of the energy present.

Lorna’s love of her subject matter and her artistic talent combine to create highly collectible art works that enthrall and fascinate in a timeless manner.

As a result, Lorna Millar’s work can be found in Private and Public Collections in Ireland, Europe, America and in a select few galleries around the world.

Funk adds Soul to Cork Jazz Festival

This year’s Cork Jazz Festival is extra Funk-y with a specially commissioned oil on canvas painting by artist Mia Funk curated by Buckley Fine Art Galleries commemorating over 30 years of the festival. The painting features 21 of the top artists that have played over the years & is part of Funks highly acclaimed ‘audience series’ for which she won the Prix de Peinture at the Salon d’Automne de Paris 2009. The painting is on display in the window of Brown Thomas Cork for the week of the Jazz & a 'Jazz Greats' themed exhibition of Mia's work is on show at The Gallery Kinsale. www.thegallerykinsale.com

Paul Christopher Flynn; A New Direction

Exhibition, The Gallery Kinsale, Friday 7th October at 6pm

Paul Christopher Flynn is an Irish artist whose work has been described as contemplative, enigmatic and inspirational. His work has attracted the attention of critics such as Professor Amanda Croft, of Queens University, Belfast who wrote that the artists work is evocative of elemental forces and that a recent collection of landscape paintings fulfils this communicative role perfectly.I intend my paintings to invoke rather than to explain. I try to create a visual and emotional space in a painting in which both eye and mind may roam. I believe that my function as an artist is to encourage viewers to participate in the creative process, to explore and complete the paintings for themselves.

Watercolour Course

A one day watercolour workshop with artist Annemarie Bourke in Kinsale on
Saturday September 10^th.

Comprising a full day tuition where she will demonstrate:-
The use of a limited palette, painting water, boats, skies and figures in a simple step by step process.
You are guaranteed to finish the day refreshed, inspired with your own painting & ready to do it all again.

The course costs €50 & the materials to bring are -
Watercolour paper - recommended Arches 140 not.
A board; brushes; 2" masking tape white; 2b pencil; neutral tint & masking fluid.
Paints - Any artists quality, preferably tubes.

Sharon McDaid Exhibition

Start Date Thursday 24th of March.

Opening night is Thursday 24th March 7pm at our Clonakilty Gallery. Donegal artist, Sharon McDaid, works in a variety of media and is inspired by the surroundings of her native Inishowen. Her works convey life in Donegal and the diversity of the landscape.Suggestive mark-making and vivid colour makes Sharon's work innovative and distinctive yet leaving something to the viewers imagination.This accomplished artist works primarily in oils and a variety of other media to produce works in comtemporary and more traditional styles.

Buyers Guide to Irish Art

This influential publication has now published it's 6th edition and as well as listing over 18 of our artists in it's listings it also nominated two of our artists for special mention. In the Emerging Artists section Katarzyna Gajewska was highlighted as being one of the artists of the future, joining the ranks of from previous editions such as Barrie Cooke, Jack Donovan, Louis Le Broquy, Colin Martin etc.

Norman Teeling was highlighted in the Established Artists section and continues to be at the forefront of the "plein air" painters in the UK and Ireland.
